PiD is generally regarded as a prequel to the Marathon series. There's not much direct linkage, though. If you visit the "Marathon's Timeline" section of the story page, you'll get the full scope of things, from long before PiD to well after the Marathon trilogy.

Also, this link gives a short synopsis of the Marathon story, with reference to PiD thrown in. Hope this helps...
