You are absolutely right...the textures were really...ummm...freaky. And what can fit better with the Pfhor than something freaky.
Anyway, personally I liked the M2 the most. It is just the designing of the levels, and the story(Although the story is great in all 3 games). I don't like very much to be in dark, creepy corridors (but it creates a certain atmosphere which you don't want to lose), but in M2 there are lots of large rooms with lots of light.
