I think this is due to MI being aimed at FPS experts (experienced players of M1 and M2). In M1 and M2, the developers always had to keep the total newbie in mind, and make sure that all the monsters were relatively easy, the levels simple to figure out, and so on. In MI, the audience already has the basic skills down and is looking for a challenge, so DA was free to create levels that were much more interesting and ignore the fact that they were also much more difficult, and was also free to play with the game world in ways that would be additionally difficult or just plain confusing/annoying for a newbie (like the way the plot is so dependent on M2 (and aside from all the ways it's confusing even to us experts :P), or changing who your enemies are every few levels). : Pretty much the only visible problems with Infinity, and these are really
Just please don't say you liked the M2 Pfhor textures :P I have messed around with my copies of the games enough that I could now play through M2 using the MI textures or vice versa. They do look really, really different, and I personally prefer the MI look but continue to use the M2 textures in M2 for accuracy and nostalgia. : Also (and this is probably the biggest gripe about Infinity), the game is
As above, I don't think MI was supposed to be accessible. It even started life as just a level pack to be included with Forge and Anvil (because, according to the scrapbook, the editors alone would be "boring"). |
