In Response To: Re: Volunteers: Pfhoraphobia (whocares)

(note: I'm actually responding to TWO different messages here -- just so you don't get confused)

: I think it's one of the flags that keeps it within the polygon (no matter
: what it is), because I remember in 'WaterLoo Waterpark' that they never
: came out not becuase of the 'zone border', but the flag. I can't recall
: what the name of it is, but you'll find out sooner or later.

A monster on a "monster and item impassable" polygon cannot move unless you're standing on its polygon; Mike Trinder once told me that a monster on a "teleport" polygon has the same problem for monsters, at least under M2/?, and, as usual, he's right. In addition, a monster must have three consecutive polygons in which it can move or it _won't_ activate at all, I don't think. (This is a highly useful tidbit for those who want to make solo scenarios, by the way -- it nagged me forever until I finally learned it).

: so i am wondering this: If you
: position an enemy on a teleport polygon in Marathon, does the game
: engine not allow that enemy to leave the polygon? Does it act like a
: "monster impassable" poly? Since i know next to nothing about
: mapmaking, I cannot answer that question.

I'm assuming that yes, it does act like a "monster impassable" poly -- I see no reason why it shouldn't be any different under M1 than it is under M2. But I've never used Pfhorte except to convert maps from M1 to M2 (by the way, doesn't work with the Alien ship), or partook of M1 cartography for any particular reason -- I entered Marathon fandom under Infinity, and never felt the need to wrestle with what was essentially an inferior mapmaking program than Forge for what was essentially an inferior engine than Infinity's. So perhaps an experienced M1 cartographer could better answer this question.
