: crew members being suprised by seing the cyborg and that he was the last
: of his kind. Its almost too tell-tale to me. And I realize the whole thing
: about it being a prequel to the Marathon series is probably just a
: pipe-dream, but I honestly doubt that its a Mark V cyborg, its more likely
: that the reporter just slipped.
There is a way that it could actually be a Mark V cyborg. When the Marathon is launched, in 2472 there are 10 Mark IV cyborgs on board. As time progresses, technology on Earth does also, so in another couple of years the remaining cyborgs are upgraded to Mark V. The Covenant begin to wipe out the human colonies during this time, and the events with the Pillar of Autumn and on Halo occur before (as pointed out in the news at HBO for July 31) the Marathon reaches Tau Ceti.
