In Response To: gravity and level design (Soapstone)

: The floors and ceilings are flat because the Marathon engine is incapable of
: rendering them at any other angle.

Cop-out :P

: The Marathon probably does not use
: artificial gravity because, if it did, your motion sensor would be screwy
: when onboard the Marathon (as it is when onboard the Pfhor scoutship,
: which does use artificial gravity).

Durandal says that the Pfhor ship generates a "pulsed magnetic field" which interferes with the motion tracker, and that they have "lighter artificial gravity". Also note that the stars out the window do not move on either ship.

: Deimos (Marathon IS Deimos) might have
: enough mass to provide adequate gravity by itself. If that's the case,
: then the levels must radiate outward from the center of gravity.

Sorry, it's way too small... you could probably exceed escape velocity by jumping. 8 kilometers is way too small for effective gravity.
