In Response To: Volunteers -- Bigger Guns (7revor Smith)

: Well, that sure was fun, I can't wait until we get to the Pfhor levels. :)

: The first odd thing that I noticed about this level, is the switch in the AR
: room. All it seems to do is turn the light in the room on and off. First, it
: doesn't seem like Bungie to just drop useless switches around their levels,
: and second, what's the purpose of turning the lights on and off?

: The two "secret" rooms both needed to be grenade-hopped to. The
: first one
: was between the two dark rooms leading to the room that you raise the steps
: from, and it had a bunch of AR ammo and two invisible compilers. The second
: was in the room that you drop into from the ceiling, and all it had was an
: infravision chip.

: Towards the end, there is a strange triangle object with pillars on each of
: its points. The floor is blue, and lit-up. As far as I can tell, its a
: monster activation poly. Has anybody else noticed this/know what it is?

: One of the coolest features of this level is the ambush in the hallway
: leading to the final room. The compilers come at you from the back, and
: the fighters from the front. That can really suck on TC, because the
: hallway is so narrow, making it difficult to dodge those darn seeking
: bolts.

: In the last room, there is terminal about doors. Why doors? Is it because the
: Pfhor lack Door Technology(TM) and are hoping to steal valuable corporate
: secrets? How do the Pfhor understand English anyway? I know they have
: translators, but how would they have English translators if they haven't
: made contact with humans before? Could Durandal have sent them
: translators? Am I making a big deal out of nothing?

Some other interesting things about this level. Check the ceiling of the first green walled area. People do miss this. While the level is in two parts you can get back. See Jimmy Mitchell's Vid films for details on this. You can also reach the secret areas without using grenades. As Mark has said already on this forum the Pfhor Fighters regenerate and they'll follow you from the first part of the level to the second. Watching it in Map view is really errie. I believe this is the only Marathon level with one door. I could be wrong though.

There are some good Vid films of this level on the Vidmaster page. You might find them fun.

Cheers
Hamish
