OK, I was wrong. Although several posted that PiD was supposed to be available on Aug 1 nobody could find it for sale. However on Aug 5th one guy posted "I just bought this game at the expo on Monday, and have played for about 10 hours since then." Which means he bought it on August 2, 1993. Now this exemplifies the trouble with these "official" dates. Consider:

Aug 1 - Bungie's announced release date.
Aug 2 - A guy buys Pathways from Bungie while they set up their booth on the day before Boston MacWorld starts.
Aug 3 - The general public at MacWorld buys Pathways.

My take is that the anniversary date is the day that 'real' people can get it in their hands. So I'm adding this to my calendar:

Bungie Released Pathways into Darkness (1993) 8/3

It's amazing what reading these posts has done for my memory... on Thursday, Aug 5, Jason and Alex came by my booth and traded Minotaur and Pathways for Talking Moose and Color MacCheese.

Now if I can only find when Minotaur made it out the door...
