: I highly doubt the first option (Remember, we're pretty sure that
: Durandal isn't on this little adventure purely out of the goodness of
: his own mechanical heart), but I think the second two are probably
: both true. Remember how Durandal stole Haller's bioware
: technology? He likes toys, and I think the Achillies Virus along with
: an entire section of some of the most talented human resarchers
: around counts as such.

If he treats the Dangi scientists the way that he treated Hallerl . . .

: Man, you don't miss anything, do you? : )

Nor do you : )

: I didn't even blink when I saw that, but it raises some interesting
: questions. It's possible that Admiral Carroway was in some way
: involved in the Dangi Conspiracy (Wasn't there a term somewhere
: on the Chimera that mentioned Dangi? Forgive me, I seem to have
: misplaced both Hex! and your site address)

http://home.earthlink.net/~sflevinson/Rubicon.html

: and Durandal found out about it? It's very likely that he knew much
: more than he was letting on. He usually does. : )

I had forgotten about that one. The full terminal text is as follows:

How strange it is that things so simply set in motion can be so very hard to stop. The #ref deleted project is almost done, or so they tell me. It's been "almost done" for years now. I can't even remember the last time I had faith in what they were telling me. Maybe I never did. God, I need a smoke. I've been working for countless different officials within the UESC (or was it the Dangi Corp?) ceaselessly ever since we pushed the front line to within striking distance of Pfhor Prime. With every new assignment came a new superior. Lieutenant Kafrissen, Colonel Grimes, Major #ref deleted... I'm not even sure of the name of my current commanding officer. I simply resorted to calling each new one "Sir" a long time ago. It makes my life easier. This crash could be something of a blessing in disguise. It might just give me the chance I need to disappear for awhile, and keep to myself. This life has lost its luster...

I think that it's quite clear now that the #ref deleted project is the Achilles virus project. Dangi has an extremely long reach and it would be inconceivable that they wouldn’t have significant tenticles in the UESC, regardless of whether or not the Admiral himself was involved. In retrospect, it’s doubtful that Dangi could have made contact with the Pfhor without some help from elements within the UESC. The Dangi Board is playing both ways. Should the UESC win, Dangi will unleash the Achilles virus on humanity. Should the Pfhor win, Dangi's relationship with them would likely give them a significant role in the new order. The one thing they didn’t count on was a rampant AI and a certain Mark IV Mjolnar cyborg ;-)
