: We first learn of the Wheeling Hubcap Factory in the original Marathon,
: Never Burn Money, Terminal Three, the Gerrit White Terminal

Wow, thanks, Yossarian. I certainly remember the Gerrit White Terminal but I'd completely forgotten about the reference to the wheeling hubcap factory. As nothing is left to coincidence, there is definitely a connection.

: So now we have two separate "dreams" that are somehow connected
: by the same three words. What's caused the shift in those words'
: meanings?

But Marathon 1 didn't have dreams per se. The Gerrit White Terminal was a terminal encountered in a secret area, but through normal play. Someone or something was feeding this story to the marine - or perhaps the marine really *was* having a flashback, fed by something else he read on the terminal.

: ... what if the Gherrit White terminal was actually written by
: Durandal. The terminal text may have made such an impression on
: the Marine and he was able to relate to it so much by the time we play
: Rubicon that when he had dreams of his own, information from the
: Gerrit White terminal re-manifested itself...but the Marine had no way
: of knowing the state of the wheeling h. f. so in his own dreams he
: imagined it as a company name instead of a common around-town
: name of the place.

I don't doubt that it could have been Durandal's doing but, given the events in the rest of the Marathon trilogy, I'd bank on the GWT being the Marine's first encounter with the Jjaro (unless, of course, you believe he was the same character as in PiD).

: But its also possible that the marine was once Gerrit White AND the
: W.H.F. employee/scientist in the same lifetime...
: But its ALSO possible that these are the dreams/memories of two
: separate people...Gerrit and the WHF scientist.

Assuming that the marine is a Battleroid - a recycled cybernetic dead soldier - he could have easily been either character or both in his past lifetime. If both the GW terminal and the Rubicon dream are the work of the Jjaro, then it makes sense that they would try to take an experience from the marine's memories of the past and use it to try to warn him about a greater evil that is being perpetrated by another corporation. Thuse it may be the Jjaro who turned the wheeling hubcap factory into the Wheeling Hubcap Factory.

: Submarines don't usually have rat or even insect infestations as the
: food is usually secured and sealed...I suppose the same would be
: for a self-contained UESC Salinger several centuries in the future.
: So you probably wouldn't see a rat on the Salinger unless you were
: ......dreaming?
: Alright, that's a bit dramatic, they could have escaped from the labs.

Laboratory rats and mice *do* escape and it's amazing what they can subsist on. I once found family of mice living inside of what had been an expensive laboratory instrument - they had eaten the insulation off of all the internal wiring. You can imagine my surprise when I plugged it in and sparks flew - and mice ran out!
