| In Response To: Accck! Wrong! (REB) : Halo was being developed for both Macintosh and Windows before the buyout.
How about... Because of the buyout, Mac and PC users WILL be able to play it. If the buyout hadn't happened, that might not have been true. How about... Buying an Xbox and Halo is FAR cheaper than upgrading the Macintosh I owned in July 1999 to the point where it could play Halo. (And don't tell me that I could do other things with that computer, because I sure as hell don't need a Geforce4 Ti to crunch spreadsheets.) How about... The Halo that exists today is far, far better than the Halo that would have existed had the original dev plan been carried out. The pipe dream of a persistent online world would have been proven to be the product of Nathan's fevered imagination that it truly was, and the end result would have been a game that (while no doubt cool) wouldn't have stood up to what Bungie was able to do with the Xbox platform. The PC/Mac versions that will come out of this development process will be FAR superior to what would have existed 1 or 2 years ago - if only because they'll be able to take advantage of the much-improved graphics hardware that has appeared since then. Or maybe it's none of the above - maybe they really DID screw you over by going to the Xbox first. | |
