In Response To: Re: Political Structures in Marathon (Yossarian) : Council would suggest a possibly representative form of government (though
So you agree with me there are no indications of UESC's political system, but you don't belive it's some sort of dictatorship? Well, that can be considered true for humans. Durandal told the marine he was humanity slave for three hundred years. : I'd say the humans under Durandal's control were in a more or less
I should have explained myself more clearly: the situation changed under Durandal's rule in the sense that all humans in general, no matter their characteristics, became less than zero. Durandal never condemns the cyborg for killing bobs. On the other hand, he warms him about pissing off free S'pht and S'pht'Kr. The strange thing is Durandal claims he feels loyalty to humanity, yet he didn't think twice when he called the Pfhor. And later he excuses himself saying Tau Ceti's genocide bought time for Earth. Actually, that's how dictators talk... : Ah, but you forget he chapter screens, my man, creations of Bungie, and
Most of those chapter screens by Craig Mullins were considered inaccurate in those days. And I know a reason why Robert Blake would appear as a white man in that painting even though he could be black. But I'm going to put in practice something this forum needs a lot and that is: not discussing just to probe the other person is wrong. What you say is true: the information on that chapter screen is accurate, Blake was a white man. Thus the UESC could have not practiced some sort of Apartheid. On a side note, the Bobs on M2/Infinity where both white and black. The bobs on M1 where all black. This could be the biggest flaw on Marathon's plot: Bungie never give an explanation on the game of why every single bob we met on the Marathon was a black person. It was only when I saw the Marathon Home Videos several years later (somebody have to upload that thing on the web) when I understood why. Hamish is on vacation. Anybody else can confirm or deny there's no explanation at all on the game about this? And where all those white guys came from? : Don't we learn that at the end of M2 that the clans have reformed but have
Socialist confederacy? In theory that's a contradiction. In practice many nations had very contradictory social governments, as Poland during the last part of XX Century. So I can't say you're neither right nor wrong. : Whew..the pfhor..try this: An Imperial Caste-based Bureaucratic Totalitarian
That's quite a long title. You can say the same thing about Japan, the United States and many other countries - and an ant colony. If you have to put a label to the political system of the insects, they're everything but democratic. That makes me think if a totalitarian government is that bad. You got to accept that people, as individuals, are smart, but as a mass, they're pretty stupid. Isn't the will of a single person more wise than the opinions of millions of people that can't agree on anything? Once I read a comedy about God coming back to Earth and making a tour around the world. When questioned about what would be in his opinion the ideal form of government, God answered dictatorship, because he was a dictator too - do what I say or burn in Hell. : But I tend to believe that in order to understand the political
