In Response To: A proper venue? (Rick Blaine)

: Is this a proper venue for postings involving Halo? This forum belongs to
: Hamish and Claude. If either of them ever rules that my postings are
: off-topic, and tells me to leave, I will comply. I shall put down my
: keyboard and post here no more.

: I hope that day will never come.

: The themes I'm talking about are common to both games. Creation &
: extinction of species by an outside agent. Evolution. Godhood. It doesn't
: matter if the 'KYT beings' exist in both games or not. Multiple universes
: aren't necessary. Halo links to Marathon & PiD through many deep
: ideas.

: The HBO forum is a fun place, but the majority of the population there has
: never played any Marathon game. Here we have a bunch of people who have
: played and enjoyed Marathon, and who love the Bungie designs so much that
: they went out & bought an Xbox just to play Halo. The soil is more
: fertile here.

: One last thing. I need to apologize to Claude. It doesn't matter that I read
: both heavy sarcasam and an argument from authorty in one of your posts. I
: should have held my tongue.

: I apologize for my behavior towards you.

No apology necessary. You chose to interpret my stance as an argument from authority - it was nothing of the kind. I don't believe I have any more of an inside track than you (or anyone else)... I just think that the Halo story (like other parts of Halo) was, by necessity, rushed, and the credit you've given Bungie for tying it in with Marathon/Myth/whatever is misplaced. That's a personal opinion, and you're absolutely welcome to disagree with it. (I stopped arguing when I realized that there was no way either one of us was going to change the other's mind - I'm not in college any more, and no longer have the time for that sort of endless philosophical discussion. :) )

As for being off-topic... I agree wholeheartedly with Hamish - this is a fine place for your speculations. (I happen to believe that the number of intelligent posters (as well as the number of Marathon players) at HBO is quite a bit higher than you seem to think... but that's neither here nor there.) Beyond that... this is his playground, whatever his protestations, and if he approves, I approve. :)
