| In Response To: Re: Episode IV: A New Paradigm (Jonah) : In nature, there is no good and bad. Okay, I'm letting my Platonic side show, here, but I have real issues with the idea of good and bad not existing. If there were no good (nor Good) then I would have no reason to continue living- there would be no point. I do stuff, because it seems good (at the time, at least). I read the Story page because it is a good read. I eat sushi because it tastes good. I fart because it makes me feel better. It is my belief that the Good (and everything that shares in that Good, no matter how small the portion) is what motivates me (and possibly others as well). We create art (or in this case, an outstanding bit of interactive storytelling) because it seems like a good thing to do. Whether we do it for love, money or spite, these things seem good to us at the time of the creation. WRT Rick's new multiverse paradigm, we are discussing it because we are compelled to do so by its appearance of goodness (or beauty, if you like). In fact, I would pose this question to you all: Why are we even concerned with trying to tie these stories together (including M1-3)? Why does it matter at all? My answer is my own, although I stole a whole lot of it from proposition 13 of Proclus's Elements of Theology. Thank you for your patience w/ my ranting. I hope that it bears some good for you. | |
