Therefore it must consist only of what they all know (the game) and what can be deduced from it by following principles of reasoning that they all agree on (logic). : Formal logic will only take us but : so far towards understanding a structure of this type. We need another : tool. Reducto ad absurdum is a tool we can use. Reductio ad absurdam is a tool of disproof, not investigation. If a line of argument leads to a conclusion that is absurd, then it is most likely false. : Form a postulate. Apply logic to reason it through. See where it takes you. : If your chain of logic takes you to a contradiction, than either your : postulate or your reasoning is false. If you wind up anyplace else, all : you can say about 'truth' is that the postulate has not been proven false However, stating postulates that are not falsifiable (it is not possible to imagine any situation in which they would be shown to be false) is not logical.
