: Then is it not reasonable to believe that the games are not in fact connected
: at all, and it is impossible to connect them without adding something from
: our own imagination (which I would then disagree with)?

Imagination exists. You can't reject it just because it's inconvient to your argument. In fact you can't offer me, or you, or anyone else a stand-alone proof that you exist without dragging in the concept of imagination.

I think, therefore I am. Circular reasoning? No, it's called 'reducto ad absurdum'. Nobody has ever been able to find an existance proof that isn't based on this type of reasoning.

We have just run head-on into the brick wall of Godel's Theorem. Ouch.

A story is a shared construct that exists at the intersection of the mind of the reader with the mind of the author. Formal logic will only take us but so far towards understanding a structure of this type. We need another tool. Reducto ad absurdum is a tool we can use.

Form a postulate. Apply logic to reason it through. See where it takes you. If your chain of logic takes you to a contradiction, than either your postulate or your reasoning is false. If you wind up anyplace else, all you can say about 'truth' is that the postulate has not been proven false yet.
