Not in the same universe? I beg to differ. If you look at the Halo timeline, and compare it to the Marathon timeline, you'll notice that the Halo timeline fills in a gap between some events preceding the attack on the Marathon. In fact, as I recall, there are about 50 some years between the end of the halo (as we know it so far) story line and the next item on the marathon timeline, which is a perfect time interval for a sequel (or 2, or 3). Further more, the games have enough in common to be in the same universe. The use of Marathon's logo is a big hint to that. The SPNkr makes its appearance in Halo (considering the timeline, that's really its "first" appearance, as we know it). Perhaps the biggest hints that Halo coincides with the Marathon series are our respective heroes. Master Chief is a MkV MJOLNIR cyborg. Sound familiar? If you post here, it better. Our beloved hero from the Marathon Trilogy is (most likely) the 10th MkIV that had integrated himself into society at Tau Ceti. Upon reading Halo: Fall of Reach, you learn *SPOILER* that some of Master Chief's bretheren were sent on their own missions. That's all you know. Sound conspicuous? Now, regarding Cortana... Who can say? She certainly didn't SEEM evil. I'm pretty convinced that Halo was what she said it was. *SPOILER* FoR seems to hint that she has an immediate attachment to MC, from the moment she "laid eyes" on him.
