In Response To: Re: Marathon Symbol Theory (Hamish Sinclair)

: Repost away.

Here we go:

The post I found refers to the proposition that the entity Yrro = the entire Jjaro race, but by extension it can be argued that this proposition is the case because the jjaro are a collective. If I find the older post, I'll post a link to it...

= = =

I still maintain that Yrro EQUALS the jjaro. There are a couple of prime reasons:

* Phonetic similarity in a controlled environment : jjaro -- jjarro -- yrro is TOO obvious to be a mistake. Furthermore, there are bound to be tranlation errors between two races, one of which calls itself the S'Pht and calls 'scary-shit chaos' wr'kn'cacnter or whatever :D

(I think it's just a spelling error that the map text said 'jjarro were at tau ceti', since the referrence was in M1)

* The S'Pht share some form of collective consciousness - remember the M2 term text with "You kill me, but free the unit-whole"? To me, that seems to imply that the Jjaro were seen as a wise father race collective-consciousness.

* Finally, consider the dramatic tidyness and implications of losing Pthia (a sister race) in a war with the formless chaos, and dropping a galaxy-wide empire and leaving in despair. That sounds about right to me :D

: The Phfor were slavers, sure, and they wanted more slaves. But if it was only

: that why both totally destroying the colony once they realized that the 9

: cyborg down there were kicking their butts? Why not just leave? Pride, or

: something deeper?

Same thing as the Trih'Xeem - if you can't eat it, kill it :)

The Pfhor have a 'Council for the Eradication of Species Unsuitable for Enslavement' after all -- perhaps they just wanted to wipe out humans to get them out the way... but keep the colony to pillage tech (rather than just nuke and pav...carpet ;p)

: The Phfor already had access to Jjarro tech, and I

: think, they rightfully feared any other race gaining this knowledge as

: well. (the Hindmost creche, "of an intelligence so vast, it's actions

: seem to be insanity", to paraphrase a terminal text I can recall,

: could be an example of a Phfor-Jjarro)

They feared Jjaro tech themselves, that is true -- the Drinniol slave revolt was a direct result of implanting Jjaro tech.

: When Durandal called out to the Phfor, he could have unknowingly (or maybe

: knowingly) also made them aware that he was built using Jjarro tech. Why

: else would the Phfor come? Why bother? I think they wanted to destoy

: Durandal and prevent him from becoming powerful enough to become a serious

: threat to their empire or the Hindmost Creche. When they realized that

: there were other Jjarro tech enabled beings on the Marathon, their mission

: only became more urget. Not only did they have to deal with Durandal, but

: also the 10 cyborgs and the other AI's.

You have a very fair point here :D

: To assert their dominace over the galaxy, the Phfor wanted to make sure that

: they were the only race with access to and control over Jjarro tech, and

: therefore, the potential to "acend" to Jjarro-hood, and become a

: being of imminse power.

: I think.

LOL :D I'm not sure I agree with the implication however -- the pfhor rarely (if ever) produced or expanded tech themselves, and their exploration techniques were consistently destructive (remember the crushing machines in M2 and Infinity to text Flickta and Compilers?)

The Pfhor were more likely to assert dominance over the galaxy to expand their slave-empire, and CRUSH those who stand in their way. Mwahahah!
