In Response To: Re: Strauss/Durandal threory posted (William Spencer)

: I'm not sure about that - I recall in the Lost Terminal Packets, that Muller
: repeatedly mentions Durandal's interferences in the defense of the
: Marathon. Leela mentioned them too: Durandal would open doors into
: restricted areas, letting the aliens in; he'd close and lock doors and
: redirect elevators, separating militia squads; disrupt communications; and
: so on - all things that weren't really purposeful. I suppose if you're an
: AI programmed to open doors, that's as destructive as you can get - short
: of opening all the airlocks. (Well, actually the airlocks are probably
: manual-release for safety's sake, so he probably couldn't.) But before he
: became lucid again, he certainly seemed to do some pointlessly destructive
: things.

: Afterwards, though, he calmed down.

I think I disagree. These were were neither pointless nor lacking in purpose. Durandal's aim during much of the initial attack of the Marathon was to maximise chaos so that he may ultimately transfer himself over to the Pfhor ship. Indeed, he uses exactly the same tactic, and for the same purpose later in M1, sending the Marine on what Durandal calls an "exploratory" mission, but whose ultimate aim is for the Marine to wreak havoc upon the Pfhor ship, thereby causing enough confusion for Durandal to move in.
