In Response To: Clearing the air... (Claude Errera) My respect for Fm is endless. (I don't know him personally, so I won't call him 'Randy'). Words don't adequately describe what he has done for many of our gaming communities. Additionally, the Fileball system is amazing and was my first choice for distributing my creations. However, I question the morality (and legality) of charging for other people's work created using other people's tools for other people's games. I was under the impression that Bungie has given us tools (Forge, Anvil, Fear, and Loathing) and permission to use their textures, sounds, sprites, etc., with the one condition that we don't charge for our creations. When I made Carol of the Bobs (my only real contribution to the Marathon community), Marty made it ABUNDANTLY clear that I'm not allowed to charge for my fan music. For this reason alone, I am morally obliged to remove 'Carol of the Bobs' from Fb. I'm disappointed that Fm wasn't able to pull off the system using donations ... but I'm as much to blame for that as anyone. And he ABSOLUTELY DOES DESERVE support! Unfortunately, I'm not willing to have my creations sold. I thank Frigidman (and the rest of the excellent Fb staff) for an amazing contribution to multiple gaming communities. I understand the situation and the choices (or lack there of) at hand. I respectfully disagree with the choice that has been made and now that my explanation for removing my files from Fb is complete, I shall step down from my ranting podium. P.S. Let it be known that Carol of the Bobs was the fifth most downloaded Marathon file at Fileball at the time of its removal with 219 downloads in four months. :D
