Well, it I could only have one weapon, it would definitely be the AR. No other weapon has the stopping power of this gun. Need to fight in close quarters, then it's bullets all the way. Need to get that hunter up on the ledge? Lob a grenade at him while you're just out of his line of sight. No other weapon can compete against troopers, which should tell you something.

As you note, the one place where the AR doesn't cut it is for accurate, distant combat. Although the magnum is by far the most accurate weapon in your arsenal and while it seems to have a near infinte range (not too realistic there), it doesn't pack a lot of fire power and it cannot trigger that far away switch. For me, the second choice is the fusion pistol. Not as accurate as the magnum, but much better stopping power and a much greater wallop. And another reason the magnum can be useful is that you always seem to have plenty of ammo for it which, again, should tell you something.
