: On the plus side, the chapel where the manuscript is found is quite
: impressive, and the combat is usually good. The level is pretty linear
: (except for the end), and it's nice to be able to put the smack down on
: all the monsters that were shooting at you as you ran along the path.

Ah, yes. The chapel is a definite highlight. And the secret powerup and ammo stash hidden in one of the windows is a nice treat.

: Where is this? I didn't see it mentioned in the spoiler guide.

The secret shortcut? It's mentioned in the first paragraph of the Spoiler Guide:

Across from the switch - in the water - is a small plot of grass. Jumping on this opens a hidden platform in the underwater tunnel, which allows the player to skip the lock system, and next outdoor areas - entirely.

In other words, jump down into the water, go through the tunnel, resurface, find and jump onto the small triangular plot of grass, then jump back into the water and head back for the tunnel, where a secret platform will have decended that provides direct access to the buildings overhead. No need to deal with the locks. No need to deal with the grassy maze. It cuts out the worst half of the level. But then, what's the fun of that?
