In Response To: Re: Judge Dredd (Pfhortier)

: They probably figured it would be easier to do a clip loading animation than
: having a hand put bullets into a revolver.

Well, there are full moon and half moon clips for revolvers that would make just as easy an animation. Flip the revolver to the side opening it, then shoving the clip into the chambers. Don't think it would take more slots than the current animation. Also, a common way of quick reloading for revolvers is also to carry spare preloaded cylinders, a precursor to magazines used as early as the Civil War.

: I think the reload animation is
: the only place in the game were it acts like a semiautomatic.

In Marathon 1 true. In 2 and Infinity you see casings being ejected as an autoloader would normally do, but then, they correctly show the pistol as an autoloader in the manual.

: The design
: of the handle doesn’t look like it accommodates a clip. It would have been
: more badass to actually be using an eight shot revolver 800 years in the
: future to slay Pfhor.

Yeah, there is nothing like going back to the basics of a really kick ass classic weapons system.

: Another oddity is that the magnum has a sight down the barrel, but also has a
: scope. But I guess you could explain this as the scope might be a
: modification.

Agreed. This is common enough in real life. The front sites on many pistols are fixed and scopes are typically an after market modification. The whacked thing about the Marathon 1 pistol is that the front sight is so high, it partially blocks the view through the scope.

An even odder thingy with the manual pic of the M2-Infinity pistol, is that the scope looks to be attached to the barrel rather than to the slide or the frame. It wouldn't work. The slide would stop as soon as it impacted the scope mount on the barrel. You see, the barrel is stationary, attached to the frame. When fired, the slide is thrown backwards by recoil extracting then ejecting the empty casing and cocking the hammer. At the end of its travel a spring forces the slide back, the slide strips a cartridge from the magazine and seats it into the chamber of the barrel. The thing as shown would probably blow up with a magnum round partially extracted. If nothing else, it would jump out of your hand and drag its butt across the floor while yelping like a throat kicked dog.

: Have we figured out what the boxy thing under the barrel does? Laser sight?
: Flashlight?

Gosh, good question. Laser sights and flashlights are typically mounted under the barrel. It would be a good spot for either. Perhaps it is supposed to be a laser site because the size of the "box" it is in, big enough to hold the laser mechanism and it's batteries. It's not typical to have both laser sight and scope simultaneously as they are independent sighting mechanisms but it's a possibility. My guess is that if it is the scope-less M1 revolver shown in the manual it is probably a laser sight. If it is the scoped M1 revolver in the game, it's probably a flashlight. But it's anybodies guess, don't you think?
