An interesting proposition, and I recommend joining into a guild for the experience to anyone who has a familiarity with Forge and good spatial awareness.
I went with the whole 'group' thing once with [now dead] They Might Be Map Makers (TMBM). Although, through laziness, procrastination, and Apathy (heh, a myth related pun) some things got done, others... well... a whole two years worth of my artwork will never see the light of day. Unless I can find it on their HL server somewhere...
Anyways, people; take this fellow up on his announcement. Me? I'm more of a lone mapmaker. Kind of like Ian McConville was with M:Red, although he rocks, and I not as much so.

However, one suggustion:

Having a direction is a definate plus for any online group. Without that, things will peter-out and nothing will ever get accomplished. Take it from a disillustioned vetern of such things.
