In Response To: Re: PiD and All Quiet on the Western Front (REB) All Quiet is a great book. It's all that much better since Hitler had it banned because it's depiction of war hindered his propaganda machine. The only war novel that tops it (in my opinion) is The Things They Carried, which is more a collection of stories. It wouldn't surprise me at all if that name was taken from the book. Marathon and its sequels convince me that the people at Bungie (or some of them) are very well read. Almost every level name is a quote or reference, and then there's the whole Song of Roland thing. |
