Uhh...how about I meant this character on the following line:

If your browser encoding is set incorrectly, that will display as garbage text rather than the Japanese Kanji for the number 8. That character also appears in my text in the parent post, and incidently very closely resembles the symbol in the first quadrant on the 6th glyph. It is called using Japanese encoding to view Japanese characters. For example:
¤³¤ì¤ÏÆüËܸì¤Ç¤¹¡£
If your browser encoding is not set to Japanese Auto-Detect (or Shift-JIS, take your pick), that will appear as garbage text.
