In Response To: Well... (Ernie)

Lemme explain how it's going to work. The story will be told through a series of short-stories, each one artistically complete within itself, but recounting a "chapter" in the Marathon timeline.

For instance the first short-story could be the Thermopylae vs. Icarus war, and telling the story of one of the battleroids (perhaps it's really the marine) and possibly putting a twist on things, like the cyborg slaughters innocent people or something. A story about Traxus IV would be nice. Then the next one could be about the attempted cue of the MIDA (?) group on Mars, maybe ending with a fight onboard the marathon (I recall reading that they put guns onboard, the rebels). And then a story about Tycho, Leela and Durandal and their chit-chat during the journey. Then setting up the colony, or the phor attack, the defense of the marathon, and interesting mission, mysterious stuff about the Jjarro, Lh'Owan... you get the picture.

The beauty of the Marathon universe is all the useful themes like AI, cyborgs, stranded humans, oppressive forces, war; and also useful characters like the Marine, Durandal, Tfear, Strauss, Blake etc,

And the good thing about my idea: I can let the marathon universe come into itself without being tedious, build on a great plot, as well as having almost total freedom to write good short stories, with their own morals and events.

And if you've read The Martian Chronicles you'll know EXACTLY what I mean. Go read it now.

p.s. I detest those constantly gunslinging-hut-hut-hut-kapow fanfics that crop up like fungii.

p.p.s. I would like input from you guys as to what Marathon things would make good short stories, but I'll guess I'll post a separate thread soon enough.

: Ray Bradbury? Nope.. what has he wrote?

: As far as a ongoing Marathon fanfiction story... ehhh.....

: I don't mean to sound iffy, but a ongoing story could risk falling into the
: traditional Scifi-FPS fan fic durge.

: What durge is this you ask?

: The one where (ive seen it with Doom fan fic LOL >) where the battles
: become the focus of everything; causing indepth descriptions or references
: only a [insert fan type here] would understand.

: I know that Doom fan fic is a bad example, but its the only true case of a
: story being based solely upon a FPS game I know, regardless of how indepth
: the story of the game itsself is.

: A good example I would say is the Halo: FoR novel. Not being fan fiction,
: it's understandable that M$ and Bungie took threatened (I assume)
: violence if the story became too "im-reloading-my
: gun-as-the-blood-splashs-upon-my-face" ish; therefore not a good
: read for your average joe.

: Your other point mentioning how a story written for people who don't know
: Marathon does require some tedious background information to be worked
: in somewhere is true.
: I countered this issue with my oneshot Marathon-based story by explaining
: much of the vital background via Durandal's initial term. message
: [sprinkled with Durandal-esk commentary like "In case you were
: asleep during our previous adventures. . ." ] .

: I do wish you the best of luck with your "Marathon Chronicles".
