In Response To: Ringworld??? Banks??? *NM* (Johannes Gunnar)
Banks is a novel-writer which has written a collection of science fiction novels about a sociaty in space called "the culture". These culture people are much more advanced than us punny earthlings and are building ring-shaped contructions in space which they live on. I have read all culture novels but one, quite good stuff.
Larry Niven wrote a book in 1970 I think it was about a RingWorld in space. This Ring was very different from Banks rings. Larry wrote Ring World quite some time before Banks debuted in 1984, was it?
Anyways, the Bungie gang has been very influenced by both Niven and Banks. Halo is very similar to Banks rings.
