In Response To: Re: Blame Canada? (Hamish Sinclair) : If memory serves it's a reference to the film "Force 10 From
: Really interesting connections you unearthed in the rest of your post. : Cheers
I remember that movie. Harrison Ford did it after StarWars and resulted a total fiasco for him: he was compared to Gregory Peck and lose. BUT... The number on the title of the movie is represented by a sign, 10. The number on both the 1989 song and the Myth TFL level is represented by a word. This is just a detail, I know. The question: is it relevant or just a mistake? About the song Into Darkness: It's not actually a song but the begining of a 3-part song called The Necromancer. And guess what? The Necromancer is based on Lord Of The Rings - and we all know the Myth serie is also influenced by this Trilogy. I feel the provervial link between Myth and PiD could be here, somewhere... but where? Just for the record, here are the lyrics of the song: The Necromancer
I. Into Darkness
As grey traces of dawn tinge the eastern sky, the three travelers, men of Willow Dale, emerge from the forest shadow. Fording the River Dawn, they turn south, journeying into the dark and forbidding lands of the Necromancer. Even now the intensity of his dread power can be felt, weakening the body and saddening the heart. Ultimately they will become empty, mindless spectres, stripped of will and soul. Only their thirst for freedom gives them hunger for vengeance...
Silence shrouds the forest
II. Under the Shadow
Shreds of black cloud loom in overcast skies. The Necromancer keeps watch with his magic prism eyes. He views all his lands and is already aware of the three helpless invaders trapped in his lair...
Brooding in the tower
III. Return of the Prince
Enter the Champion. Prince By-Tor appears to battle for freedom from chains of long years. The spell has been broken...the Dark Lands are bright, the Wraith of the Necromancer soars away...in the night.
Stealthily attacking
Some notes: * The three travellers are Frodo, Sam and Gollum * By-Tor is a character from a previous song, By-Tor and The Snow Dog. By-Tor is a demon and after being defeated by The Snow Dog, it retreats back to Hell. So this demon and the phrase Into Darkness are linked. On the original PiD demo, the bad guy was an alien demon, not an alien god. Is there a connection? Also, on The Necromancer, By-Tor returns as a hero. Sounds like the idea behind The Leveller, but the other way around. One last thing: The Fountain is included on the same album as The Necromancer, Caress Of Steel (1975.) The whole song is entitled The Fountain Of Lamneth and is divided into 4 parts, being the last one The Fountain. At the end of the song, the lyrics say: I'm in motion
Still... I am This may be just a pun, but you can say this guy is Destiny. Now, Jason Jones was a baby when these songs were produced, indeed. But that doesn't mean he couldn't listen to them later in his life. |
