In Response To: Marathon on a console (Nijhazer)

: Greetings, programs. Sorry I'm a bit late to the party...

: I'm looking into porting Aleph One to an undisclosed console. The first thing
: I need to know is, do we actually have anyone here (other than me) who
: would be interested in playing Marathon on a console of any kind ( Please
: Note: If you dislike consoles, that's wonderful for you, but if you have
: nothing constructive to offer in response to this then may I ask that you
: please refrain from responding)... The second thing: Even if you yourself
: would not be interested, would you say that a console port of Marathon
: would be a good idea, in your opinion; and why or why not?

: -Nij

I think it would be interesting to learn about how it runs and what kind of graphics it would have. I would like to compare the mac hardware with whatever console it is to see if there is some kind of baseline and to hear about how the architecture affects different aspects of performance.

I think the silliest thing about the console port would be the question of would anyone play it. Can they just download the game to the console or run it off a CDR? It could be useful to someone who can't play marathon on computer but have the console. Or could it not? Are PC ports of Aleph One adequate?

If I had the console or knew someone who had the console I would try it and show it to people.

I am more likely to want to run a console game on a mac than to try to get a mac game onto a console.

Is it likely to get this game to a lot of users to make it worth the work involved?
