In Response To: A call out to map makers (nooker)

: I have been mulling over a project that I've been wanting to do, but don't
: have the mapmaking skills or time to do it. I work in a school and I
: thought that it would be really cool for kids to go on feild trips without
: ever leaving the school. To this end I want to make a series of maps of
: real places with terminals that give history or facts about the things
: that the children would be exploring. Ideally these would be as real
: looking as the engine allows. Anyone interested contact me at the above
: address or post here.

Heh Isodor!

One of the reasons I got interested in mapmaking was the notion of being able to create virtual museums or visitor centers with the Marathon engines. Aleph One is hands down the way to go if one wants to use that open source real estate. One would still need to do new textures (one environment per texture set, or possibly two if the sets are large enough), sounds, objects, terminal art and text. This would really need to be a Total Conversion to reach its best light.

Unfortunately, I have no time to devote to such a project. However, you might get in touch with the people who did (and are redoing) Tempus Irae. It is IMHO the best looking and sounding Marathon scenario out there. The name that comes to my mind in terms of talent is James Hastings-Trew. He is on the A1 Mara Dev list and also shows up at the alt.games.marathon newsgroup now and then. He might not have the time, but he would do your project justice.
