In American English, one would say "Bungie is" because Bungie is a collective noun and in america collective nouns are referred to in the singular. Just as we would say "the government is." Elsewhere, however, in places such as Ireland, one would refer to collective nouns in the plural, e.g., "Bungie are," or "the government are." Since Mr. Sinclair has had such a profound and lasting effect on the Bungie community, and has generated a large amount of commentary relating to Bungie, the use of the plural reference to the collective noun "Bungie" seems to have caught on in general usage. Works for me.
