Tempus Irae Volunteers: Vendetta Kinda Mood

While we wait for the terminal analysis of Hang to Dry, we may as well continue...

You're sent to the Pfhor ship for the last time, to enter the engineering spaces and destroy it. The level is, like Polygonium Opus, a nice break from the Earth environments. Unlike Opus, it's a more consistent and cleanly-designed spaceship. The spoiler guide goes into detail about the author's philosophy regarding alien environments, and it shows in a level that feels like it has a purpose. Just what this purpose *is* is less clear.

The level is quite difficult, partly due to the presence of the new invisible Enforcers. This is the first place they've appeared outside the secret level Never Satisfied, and while they're not really different from normal Enforcers they're so hard to see in the dark areas that they'll do quite a lot of damage before you manage to hit them. There are also tons of hunters, troopers, drones, fighters, and a number of Juggernauts flying around, although much of the combat on this level consists of sniping at or from ledges while monsters rain fire down on you.

As with Opus, the technology theme allows all sorts of map elements that would be out of place on Earth. Many of these are named in the spoiler guide, like the goo fountain, the NORAD display, and the optional antenna complex. Many of them are not, like the huge mechanisms outside the upper communications core or the rooms full of circuits. There are a surprising number of health chargers, I found 5, including 3 behind secret panels. The path through the level is not too confusing, but you'll be visiting several areas more than once, and the places to go won't be all that clear.

The terminals on this level introduce an interesting subplot: There is a rebellion brewing within the Pfhor ranks. Or rather, there was, as its leader is scheduled to be executed. This will be resolved on the next level.
