The final sentence of the Infinity final screen is intriguing.
You are Destiny.
If anyone has read The Wheel of Time series, they'll know what I'm talking about. This reminds of something from the series called Ta'veren. An individual who is ta'veren is effectively a center of the universe, a twister of fates, if you will. Something about them allows them to bend events where ever they go. However, at the same time, the universe bends the individual. Basically, that persons fate and the fate of the universe are intertwined, one effecting the other in monumental ways. The person has very little say in where the universe takes them, but they drag everything else with them.
This certainly describes the player, deciding the fate of worlds, but never really free to go his own way.
