In Response To: Re: S'pht & Pfhor languages - do S'Pht Speak? (ukimalefu) : Take Chinese or Egyptian hieroglyphics. Their writing doesn't represent
Very good point, but both languages are/were spoken and, hence, can be pronounced. This may be a subtlty, but what we're trying to do here in recreating the S"Pht language is to recreate a language that we can speak. After all, why go to the trouble of converting to Roman characters if they are not a translitteration for spoken S'Pht. We might as well just learn the meanings of S'Pht characters themselves and use them to communicate, since we'll be doing so in written form only anyway. The challenge presented here is to create a living language that humans can use to communicate.
