I know, I know. The first thing all you old timers are thinking is:
"Oh, dear lord, that stupid newbie's bringing up *that* discussion again. I think we need to get around to shooting him, one of these days."
To which I say:
" There hasn't been a discussion about it for a while. I think it might be interesting to hear what the newcomers have to say. So there, meanie."
Ahem.
Anyway, on to the topic of this post. I was wondering, who here uses the keyboard to play Marathon? Who here uses the mouse?
If so, why do you use that particular instrument? Is it the control, or that the other one is too hard to use? Or that one is better in multiplay? Or does your mouse just suck too much to use?
I'll start this discussion off with my opinion:
I, until very recently, used the keyboard to play Marathon. The main reason for this was that I found using the mouse rather unwieldy, especially for opening doors and turning.
But, I was playing 'we're wating on the boxes...' (A very cool net level to TC.... Ok, MD, but I'm a wuss *and* a newbie, bite me), to the sounds of 'All Roads Lead To Carnage', and I realised that I was getting my ass whooped by those drones at the start, and I couldn't even shoot them properly. So I thought... Hmmm... Maybe I'll try using the mouse, with a sort of UTish setup.
I killed both the drones without incurring a single wound.
After a little more tweaking, I found that I could reasonably comfortably open doors and swim, and so forth. And to boot, I seemed to be a better Marathon player, as well. Now, I could actually do reasonably well on the harder difficulties. And that's always nice.
But that's my story. What about yours?
