Gherrit white had been floating off the floor for six weeks...
Could this be an out of body experiance? Nothing too special. This man is dying. The tingeling is him loosing feeling in him self. He is remembering his past days and he even sees himself in the cell.
He is talking to him self and when he dies he escapes in to the waves? The waves maybe a representation of the spirit world. I am sure the Player has seen that world quite a number of times. Maybe before he "restarts from a save point" he sees him self as if though an out of body experiance.
Maybe the player was Gherrit White. Perhaps Gherrit is a symbol of the player after Pathways Into Darkness. He is now dying and is later recreated as a battleroid.
Perhaps he as a cyborg has been limited to serving the colony. Chips are what keep him doing Leela, Tycho and Durandals's bidding. They wanted some way to control this power. Bernhard had to have these cyborgs to keep things in line. So he took steps after reading what the battleroids did when they were first used.
