Because the fundamental nature of Communism (communal ownership, low amount of personal freedom, etc.) is diametrically opposed to the fundamental nature of a capitalist democracy (private ownership, little direct government intervention in people's lives). There was also that one Cold War thing a few decades back, which might have something to do with it as well.
