Battlecat and I tried this out (a couple of system revs back - I think I was running 8.5 at the time)... and it's PAINFULLY slow over a 56k modem. If you've never played a Marathon net game at all, maybe it's tolerable... but for someone who spent years playing over a university LAN, it was worthless to the point of sadness.
I haven't played with it recently, so I can't comment on its unfriendliness with system 9.1 (or MacOSX, for that matter).
