I've taken the opposite view of above but this argument has been reheated so many times... I think that if a major studio took the time and cash and really payed close attention to detail, and tried to make something more than a typical thriller (Resident Evil), a typical Sci-Fi (Wing Commander), or some goofy kids movie (Mario Bros.), Marathon could be the first successful game-to-screen conversion. But that's a big IF. I mean, the director/producers/writers/ would have to have absolute loyalty to keeping the story as intact as possible...this would require an almost Orson Welles-like control over production that no studio would allow today, especially if one was to make a film of epic proportions. About lack of characters; there have been plenty of films that became classics with few or no major characters. For example, in "The Battleship Potemkin" there are only one or two characters you are able to know by names. The director wanted audiences to read the big picture, not interpersonal dialogue or relationships and this is considered a landmark film. : Theres the AIs, but having one guy talk to computers and kill aliens for a
Meh. Couldn't be worse than "Battlefield Earth". : Hmmm, I just thought of something. Robert Blake. Bob Blake. Bob lake. Robert Blake...the next O.J. Simpson?
