Here's my story, sad but true
Posted By: Vid BoiDate: 4/15/02 7:01 a.m.

It's about a computer I once knew: (actually I still know it but then it wouldn't rhyme)

OK, so I have Mac OS X installed together with Mac OS 9 on a non partitioned hard drive. I use Mac OS X all the time and never reboot in OS9 mode. A few days ago, my little brother wanted to play some game so I had to restart using OS9. The whole computer stopped working and said there was no system on the hard drive. So I fixed the problem and he played his game, I then restarted in OSX. All was well. But then...

*thunderstorm boom and dramatic organ music*

On saturday, my brother told me he was going to his friend's house to play network games. The friend has not yet bought Mac OS X, so he had to use *lightning and thunder outside window* MAC OS 9!!!!!! I restarted in OS9, all was well. On sunday evening we came to pick him up. He said:

"There's no need to take the computer with us. It broke last night." (His friend's dad happened to be a computer repair guy.)

I thought, oh well, he'll fix it. I had yet to hear the _really_ bad news. Suddenly, my little brother exclaimed, "do you know how broken our hard drive was?!!!"

I started getting bad vibrations.

"We ran Norton..."

I was devastated. I fainted and died, but then thought, oh well, just because they ran Norton that doesn't HAVE to mean anything was destroyed.

"...and it found 8000 corrupted files on the hard drive!"

Sensitive people should now go and get their parents, or maybe stop reading.

"But Norton FIXED them."

The computer is still not fixed, and I fear the worst. In a few days I will get the dreaded phone call.

"I'm sorry, Vid Boi...we did everything we could, but...we couldn't save it."
"You mean...?"
"Yes. We had to reformat the hard drive without making any backups of your 4 gigabytes of mp3 files that have taken you years to download and categorize, your 1000 b/w mac games you were going to review, your prefs files to all applications, your Halo movie collection, and your folder of video game music that took a whole weekend of constant downloading and renaming and listening to put together."
"NOOOO!"
