In Response To: Re: Wasps in Marathon(sortof) (Mark Levin) Well, in truth, all (flying) insects do have four wings; it's just that for most of 'em, like the common house fly, one of their pairs of wings have evolved into tiny stabilizer stubs. Others have a full four wings still, though they generally function as a single pair (butterflies are a good example of this), and (iirc) beetles have had one pair of wings evolve into coverings for the wings, like the ol' ladybug. As to what advantage the four wings give, I cannae say; perhaps it allows them to spit goop at you (:p), just like all the bugs in real life. I do know that it gives them an alien appearance (which is what I'd bet our man Reginald Dujour wanted), and that the first time one jumped me I let out a yip and jumped half a foot. What a great game Marathon is. |
