: An odd thing happened to me as I was playing through this level again. I had
: gotten to the inner ring and was starting to unload on all those soft (or
: so I imagine them to be in the twisted corridors of my mind which thinks
: about such things) Pfhor bodies with shotguns akimbo, when something
: happened to me that had never happened before.

: My computer froze.

: I hovered slightly off the ground, one shotgun whirling back to reload
: (probably via teleportation, but I don't want to get into that in this
: string), the other just about to turn a hapless Pfhor (staring at me with
: those beady little red eyes like three small bullseyes) into so much
: hamburger, suspended in a state of poetic carnage ("For all the
: carnage here, the stench of decay is non-existent.") like some
: neo-surrealist portrait.

: Enough.

: For those who might help me, I was running it on a 2001 iBook with 192MB of
: RAM running Mac OS 9.2.1. On TC of course, though I doubt that would
: affect anything related to my problem.

I have similar problems; I, too, own an iBook, though it's older; and I am running OS 9.1. Turning off extensions usually helps solve random freezes; I get them everywhere, from playing Marathon to saving text documents. It's usually right after I save a document, but not always.

I've heard that if you have two TrueType fonts that are very similar to each other installed and are running OS 9, that causes lots of freezes. If you try to remove a font from your system folder when Extensions are on and you get a freeze, that usually indicates the font in question is a problem. However, I removed all such fonts from my System Folder (at least I think I did) and the freezes still didn't go away.

Anyway, the freeze is probably not Infinity-related, but system-related. To boot without extensions on, hold down "shift" as you start up the computer, then wait until it says "Welcome to Mac OS. Extensions Off." This should solve most of your random freeze problems, though it presents a new set of problems as you can't perform such simple tasks as printing.

I'm not sure how to get rid of these things for good, but at least you can rest assured that you're not alone.

BTW, serious props for being able to get that far on "Hang Brain" on TC. I seriously get my posterior handed to me every time I try that level on TC. Actually, I think I get it handed to me every time I try that level on Normal. Ah well, some can be Vidmasters and some just... can't.

Hope this helps.
