In Response To: Exploring software rendering like Marathon (Fart Feelings)

: I've built a software renderer just to see what it was like.

: It's different from original Marathon with triangles and the great use of
: rectangles as portals.

: I need to know if original Marathon had overdraw.

: Assuming it used the Painter's Algorithm then it does have overdraw and
: clipping windows limited spans to a rectangle to reduce overdraw then the
: near polygons drew over the far polygons.

: I guess.

I don't know what overdraw is but the term makes me think of an incredibly annoying "feature" in even the modern level editor where the drawing grid is way too small compared to Eduke 32 & UZ Doom, so any polygons that pass beyond the maximum map size width wrap around to the other and cannot be counted as acceptable sectors.
