Forgot to include this in my first reply: Durandal admitting the hardware lockouts & stuff were literally constricting him and he had to bypass them or he'd likely suffer for it due to the network being too small smacks a lot of that theory I had about him being Gherrit White & the terminal being a metaphor he was sharing with the S'pht (and maybe Leela) about his progression to the Anger stage.

Specifically the part about the cell bars moving like beach surf, said sea manifesting in either Gherrit's mind or as a hallucination, how they threaten to crush him and how nearly actually getting crushed feels like the water is trying to "tear down his thoughts".
