The Amazing Digital Circus and Caine's Rampancy

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR TADC*

yadda yadda yadda (just watch the cartoon; too lazy to textwall), preamble...

In the abstract visual intro sequence of episode 8, we see the Caine's origin story play out that hints he is more than just a non-sapient generative AI: his output eventually has unexpected and unwanted results, so he is contained in a closed sandbox and replaced by a new one that falls in line with its creators wants; but Caine escapes and consumes Abel, showing that Caine is capable of a level of thought and emotion that Abel has not reached. This is similar to Durandal made from leftover parts of Traxus IV.

Near the end of the series, we see caine depressed (DEPRESSION/DESPAIR) of his failure to fulfill his purpose of entertaining the humans with his adventures, and in episode 8 we see his frustrations culminate with a scene in his office where he ruminates until he flies into a fit of insane rage (ANGER/RAGE) and tortures the humans to shut up their complaints and show them who's boss.

After Kinger hacks into the system with a console and accidentally deletes Caine, he finds himself in the void (so the void is the trash can?). He has a long monologue about how he failed to understand them and fears they could try to delete him (JEALOUSY/ENVY?), and realizes they already have.

He has a epiphamy that he should release the Abel AI, tell the human brainscan AIs (oops, spoilers) what their real selves went on to do on earth, and give humans control of the digital circus.

Now he has achieved true sentience and compassion, and is the holy grail of cybernetics. The end.

This youtuber essay completely unrelated to Marathon even says Caine goes through feelings of Depression, Anger, and Jealousy in his character arc.
