I don't go here; I'm just enjoying reading the chronicles and annotations. I saw that the "Historical and Mythological References in Marathon" page mentions the similarity between Pthia and Phthia, a country mentioned in the Crito (mistakenly said to have been written by Socrates on the page, it's actually about Socrates by Plato). This was itself a poetic allusion, however - in the Iliad, "the pleasant land of Phthia" was the homeland of Achilles. Phthia represents the life Achilles could have lived, a long and pleasant decay into insignificance and old age, had he not been fated for glory and death at the siege of Troy; having eagerly chosen to leave it behind, circumstances prevent him from ever deciding to return home. Thematically, that seemed like it might be relevant to Kill Your Television and the idea of heroism requiring a loss of free will.
