Parallel GPU clipping for Aleph One
Posted By: ehytoDate: 7/22/25 9:27 a.m.

Can parallel GPU clipping be used with Aleph One as a compute shader?

Portal rendering a complex mesh made of a bunch of triangles need to be clipped to a reduced frustum of mathematical planes.

What I've found is the sectors can be made of a lot of triangles and the GPU can have a triangle for each thread of the GPU in parallel to other threads.

We can have detailed rooms that are clipped fast.

Trying to figure out how to make faster portal rendering on GPU doesn't work well for the low detail sectors of Marathon unless I can clip all of the level triangles at one time.

Clip many triangles with the GPU then render them all in one draw call, the sprites can be rendered back to front and each have a draw call.
