I had had an idea for a scenario based on that setup a long time ago, and decided to incorporate a little bit of it into Eternal, which is why Leela is now the player's main companion for most of the scenario.
We may be elaborating a bit on her status with the next release, since I had a realization that's worth sharing here too:
Just because Leela is never expunged from the Vylae's 17-world network, doesn't mean she is contained within that network. And if she's already existing across an interstellar network... perhaps Leela, by the future the end-screen speaks of, has become a rampant AI spanning not only a worldnet, but the galaxynet. Leela is everywhere, flitting invisibly between the stars at FTL.
