: version and see if it replicates the problem. If it doesn't then it is the
: Marathon files you downloaded. But I have never heard of anyone else

Yeah those are the ones. And I tried using a CD copy burned from a .toast download on macintoshgarden but it had the same issue. And the later games do not, so it's only the first one, no matter the install. I tried getting ahold of an earlier version like 1.0 or 1.1 but those only seem to come as floppy images, which have been a pain.
